All About Trees!

We are very pleased to announce the winner of our Q1/2017 competition.

“My Switzerland” turned out to be the most popular theme in all our competitions so far with 27 photos submitted. All the pictures were showing Switzerland in different ways with diverse perspectives, so it was quite difficult for the jury to put just one criteria to select the winner.

To the final stage of voting the jury brought only 5 photos by 3 photographers: Dawid and Greogry with two photos each and one from Stephane (all featured below).

But the final race was all about the trees!

Surprisingly, the three finalists had a tree element in the composition: two photos by Gregory –  “3 Trees in Binz” and “Fog Walker” and “The Lonely Tree” by Dawid.

The members of the jury liked the mysticism of the “Fog Walker” and found “3 Trees in Brinz” brilliant in its simplicity, composition of image and colors.

Congratulations to both photographers for fabulous shots.

But the winner can only be one!

By just one point, the winner of this competition is “The Lonely Tree” by Dawid with its delicacy and gentleness of expression.

Congratulations to Dawid who will receive a Velbon UP-400 monopod.

“The picture was taken during my first winter hike in Switzerland (honestly speaking – the first winter hike at all). One lazy Sunday, me and my friends took a train from Zurich HB to Fischenthal, ZH. I was really amazed that in less than 1h away from place I live there are places so calm and beautiful. The hike took us almost 8h and 21 km in snow and frost. At the end of the day, exhausted, we enjoyed the panorama of covered in snow hills. Then I have noticed exactly this hill from the photo – perfectly plain snow with the marvelous trees and a bench.

At the time I was still using my father’s old camera, Nikon D60 with Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 lens. The picture was slightly modified with Lightroom to increase contrast and change the color temperature to colder.

Nikon D60 + Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 at f/13 and 50 mm, ISO 400, 1/500 s.”
